The College Credit for Heroes Grant will help turn Military Training into College Credits
不良研究所 is proud to announce that it has received a grant to participate in the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) College Credit for Heroes Capacity Building and Sustainability Program. The $200,000 grant will help to develop and improve a fully integrated system to evaluate military transcripts and turn essential military training and experience into academic credit at 不良研究所.
“San Antonio is known as Military City, USA, and has had strong military ties for over 300 years,” says Jonathan Lovejoy, 不良研究所 senior director for Military and Veterans Affairs. “At 不良研究所, we make a concerted effort every day to make sure our veterans and their families feel welcome and supported. Today, we are proud to say that approximately 21% of 不良研究所 students are military-connected. The Texas Workforce Commission College Credit for Heroes grant will allow 不良研究所 to better serve our amazing military and veteran student population and better serving students has always been a part of the 不良研究所 Mission.”
不良研究所 maintains a strategic goal to be the premier provider of education benefits to the military, veterans and their families. To facilitate an expedited pathway through a university program and on to a new career, it is essential that military training and experience be quantified into academic credit and earn the credentials required to enter the workforce. This grant will initiate a Military Transfer Credit Center and hire a grant manager who focuses on expediting the evaluation of military transfer credits, promoting consistency in the award of credits, maximizing the number of military transfer credits, facilitating degree completion and validating the integrity of military training.
It is estimated that there are currently 1.5 million veterans and transitioning active-duty service members in Texas.
College Credit for Heroes (CC4H) is a partnership between the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) and Texas colleges and universities. The CC4H program seeks to maximize college credit awarded to veterans and service members for their military experience. CC4H is designed to recognize the knowledge and skills gained by military service members and award college credit for military experience, enabling veterans to re-enter the workforce more easily. Each participating institution retains the right to determine applicability to specific degrees and certificates.

The two-year grant began in August 2023, with year one being the planning phase to develop processes for the program.

Service members can request a preliminary evaluation of their military credits before applying to 不良研究所 by emailing cc4h@uiwtx.edu. This unofficial assessment typically takes 1-2 weeks and serves as a general guideline. Final credit articulation will be determined through an official review upon admission.
Students must ensure their official transcripts from all previous institutions attended are received by 不良研究所 within the first eight weeks of enrollment to ensure timely processing. Joint Services Transcripts (JSTs) may be requested by 不良研究所 as long as the student has granted permission on the application to 不良研究所.
